Recovering a lost Administrator Password in Windows XP
A general issue faced by many of our customers is that they forget the administrator password which is required to login to the computer. Without this password, there is no way a normal user can gain access to the computer system and its contents. Most of us will end up formatting the hard disk or installing a fresh copy of Windows as a remedy. As a result, we make an unwanted payment for the service provider for both formatting and installing Windows. There is always a remedy for gaining access to the computer system without formatting or installing new copy of Windows.
Try all means to remember the forgotten password. This would be the first and simple option to gain access to the computer system. If there are more than one user accounts, then try accessing the system using another account that had got administrative rights. Even restoring the operating system to a backed-up state where you remember the password would be an option. But this will also result in loss of data and all setting you have made, after the back-up date. The last option would be installing a parallel copy of windows on to the same system or a new copy after formatting the system. This is time consuming process which is time consuming and also will result in loss of data. One more option that we have is to use password recovery application using which we can reset the administrative password and gain access to the system. Various applications are available in the web, for free use. "Emergency Boot CD or EBCD" is one of such application that is available on web, for free. This is a very effective software which is intended for a system recovery in case the software fails to boot. Click here to download the cd image (.ISO) which you can burn on to a cd and start using the application.
